Rocky Mount mayor addresses financial concerns as city plans $30M spending cut
Rocky Mount Mayor Sandy Roberson took to social media to address public concern, explaining what happened to the city’s finances.
So the city’s finances is a situation where we've overspent as I've looked at it. It appears to be at this point in time, primarily related to an over hiring situation. Where we have hired approximately 200 full time equivalents over the last four years, and we paid them outside of their paying comp., so outside of the allowable ranges that we had agreed on.
The mayor says the information he provided in his statement was based on what he knew at the time, explaining the situation could change in the coming days or weeks.
