Crews clear way for Texas Roadhouse, second Wawa

Motorists and residents in roughly a year are going to be able to go to a Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Rocky Mount and enjoy the chain’s hand-cut steaks, ribs, made-from-scratch sides, fresh-baked bread and ice-cold beer.
A representative of Texas Roadhouse said in a phone interview Tuesday that he is hopeful construction of the chain’s future Rocky Mount location is going to start sometime toward the end of the year.
The representative, David Hollinger, also said that the goal is to begin serving customers by the start of June 2026 and to employ in the range of 120-140 people.
Mayor Sandy Roberson said in a phone interview Monday that he did not realize how large the location at North Winstead and Curtis Ellis was until after the demolition of the former PNC Bank operations center.
“And I think it’s a great location, a great commercial location,” Roberson said.
Roberson also said that he believes the construction is going to complement what local businessmen Greg Williams and Tolston Williams have done to increase the presence of dining and retail since having acquired the adjacent Gateway building for upgrading.
“On balance I’m very bullish and very excited about what’s going on there,” Roberson said.
